Summer Camp 2010

We have had another great summer camp thanks to all of the children who attended. Next week will be our last week of camp for 2010 (July 26th – 30th). We hope all of our campers had as much fun as we had. I’d like to thank Ashley and Sam for their hard work and helping the days run so smoothly. They are both dedicated and hard workers. Wishing them both the best of luck once summer is over and they move on to new endeavors and challenges!

Art-N-Soul Class Update

Thanks to everyone who has attended one or more of our Art-N-Soul Classes. We appreciate your patronage and hope you let others know if you had a good time. If you’d like to book a private party (minimum of 10 people and max of 30), please give us a call to schedule your date. Private parties can be booked on any day of the week – subject to availability. Whoever books the party will need to provide a credit card to reserve the date. The cost is $40/person payable the day/night of the event by cash, check or major credit card. We will not charge the “hostess’s” card unless (1) she/he chooses to pay by credit card the night of the event for him/herself and/or (2) if less than the minimum number of 10 people attend. We require a final headcount one week before the event. We also require for any cancellations to occur at least 48 hours prior to the class; otherwise, the $40 will be charged to the hostess’s credit card on file. Keith’s Special Zulu Coconut For Obama

NEW ORLEANS — To mark a historic day in American history, the Zulu Aid and Pleasure Club made history of its own creating its first politically themed coconut designed specifically for President Barack Obama.

“One hundred years and Barack Obama as president. What a combination,” Zulu President Charles Hamilton said. It’s a special combination because the first African-American president took office the same year Zulu celebrates its 100th anniversary.

“It’s special. I’ve seen many coconuts. And this one is awesome. It combines New Orleans and the D.C. and the good ol’ USA on it,” Hamilton said.

Zulu’s coconuts are prized possessions many people hope to receive as Zulu parades on Mardi Gras. But this special inauguration coconut is much much more. It’s also an original piece of art designed by artist Keith Eckles.

The artist sanded the coconut’s rough surface, making it smooth enough to begin painting an image that combines Washington, New Orleans and Mardi Gras.

“What better honor,” Eckles said.

The coconut arrived in Washington, D.C., in time for the inauguration. The organization hopes to present it to the nation’s new president.

Zulu also took its special 100th anniversary beads to Washington in hopes of presenting them to the president.

New Website

We are excited about the layout of our new website. We’d like to thank our web designer, Brent, for the new look. As you’ll see when jumping around the site, we still have quite a bit of work ahead of us – but, we promise to get everything up to date soon. Be on the lookout for the opportunity to purchase our prints in the “shop” section of the website- we’ll have 5 available: Fleur De Lis (24 x 24), Eccles Self-Promotion (24 x 36), New Orleans Zydeco (24 X 36), New Orleans Jazz Band (24 x 36) and the print of the Commemorative painting donated to Archbishop Blenk High School upon its closing. We will also have postcard size prints of the Eccles Self Promotion and the New Orleans Jazz Band.
